MY HIJAB

Sometimes,
I want to open my hijab,
and show the world,
... that I too,
am beautiful in the people’s definition.

But,
deep down here,
in my little heart,
I know that beauty is by definition,
a mystery.
and it is forever more rewarding,
to be beautiful in God’s eyes.

Sometimes,
I want to wear ruffled dresses and tight jeans,
show off what I really look like,
under those baggy shirts and loosely fitted pants,
make a statement,
that I too,
have a figure and worth looking at.

But,
I know better,
to avoid entering the world of men’s imagination,
for I love my future husband,
and I am ashamed,
what should be his, has already been unveiled by others.

Sometimes,
I want to show the world,
the other side of me,
the bubblier, bolder, and crazier me.
put myself on display,
for everyone to see,
to be desired, and admired upon.

But,
I know that eyes are not just eyes,
seeing is not just seeing,
image and respect are gained,
shame and humility deserve a better placE.

I love wearing hijab.

ASUU Strike Illegal, Lecturers Won’t Be Paid – El-Rufai

Governor Nasir El-Rufai led administration has declared the strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, as illegal.
The government also said that it will not pay for days lecturers of the state owned university did not work.
El-Rufai’s spokesman, Samuel Aruwan, in a statement lamented the ongoing action, nothing that there was no dispute between the government and the striking lecturers.
“The Kaduna State Government is in receipt of communication from the Kaduna State University, KASU branch of ASUU, confirming that the branch has joined the nationwide strike because they are full members of the national union”, he said.
“This is unacceptable to the state government. It is an anomaly that employees can be on strike without declaring a dispute with their employer.
“It bears restating that Nigeria is a federation of states, and no trade union can alter this federal reality by imposing on an employer state government the terms that federal employees have agreed with the Federal Government.
“The Kaduna State Government is not affected, or bound by any dispute, disagreement or agreement ASUU may have with the Federal Government. As a sub-national entity, the Kaduna State Government is separate from the Federal Government of Nigeria. The Constitution of Nigeria clearly attests to this.
“It is the considered view of the Kaduna State Government that the KASU branch of ASUU has embarked on an unlawful strike. Therefore, the Kaduna State Government is not liable for salaries and allowances for the period of the unlawful strike.
“The government shall proceed to initiate the necessary disciplinary steps in accordance with Kaduna State Public Service Rules with respect to the individual acts of commission or omission of those that choose to join or persist in an unlawful strike”, the statement added.

Pay Exact fee

Most times when we walk into big malls, boutiques and supermarkets we never question their prices. We pay exactly what we see on the price tags and even hand out tips to the staff.

But the moment we are out of these shops and want to buy a banana and or peanut from a street vendor, our bargaining power rises to the roof.

A poor woman with hungry children at home tells you banana is R10. She even takes her time to explain how difficult it was for her to buy it from the market. But we insist that if it's not R5, we are not buying.

Some of us even step back into our cars and drive away. But because 'half a bread is better than none', the woman is forced to run after you and sell at no gain.

In her heart she cries, she's worried about how she'll survive with her children. She silently reassures herself that 'It's well since she is not returning home with the banana. Her motivation is God will definitely provide some other day.

Meanwhile you drive off and happily chow the luscious banana.

Take some seconds to think about this.
Am always moved to tears when I see people who genuinely and helplessly hawk petty goods to feed and survive for that day, especially women and children.

Please don't bargain too hard with small vendors. They do business not to buy designer bags, trendy phones, watches, shoes or designer clothes, but to FEED the family and CARE for the children in school.

This touched me when I realised it ... so lets CHANGE our ways. Its another way of spending on humanity in the will of God.
