The discovery of a breast lump in any shape or form is quite justifiably a cause of cancer

*The discovery of a breast lump in any shape or form is quite justifiably a cause of cancer*

Breast cancer is far too common in this country compared to other parts of the world.
90% of women noticing a small lump in their breast or small armpit will prove to have a benign tumor rather than cancer.
But for the remaining 10percent who do have a malignancy, the sooner  that lump is detected the easier it will be to diagnose and treat.

For early detected breast cancers, the survival rate is good. For more advanced cancers the outlook is not so healthy medically.
It is for this reason that doctors still advise women to be 'breast aware' by gently examining their breasts every three months or so to check whether any changes have occurred.
90% of all lumps are discovered by women themselves rather than a doctor.

I certainly believe that this checking routine is important.
Special/regular Breast X-rays performed after the age of 35 can also be useful.

When examining your breasts, you should check  for the following:

1. Any changes in shape or size.

2. Any enlarged veins.

3. Any areas where the skin appears thicker than usual.

4. Any dimpling of the skin or resemblance to the pitting seen in orange Peel.

5. Any ulceration of the  overlying skin.

6. Any new in turning of the nipple.

7. Any discharge from the nipple.

8. Any swelling under the armpit.

9. Any swelling of the arm itself.

For the married:
Your Abu can help to thoroughly observe the aforementioned signs, the earlier the detection the lower the risk  of suffering from this deadly disease!!!
Kindly seek for  your Hubby's attention to this.
One of my previous case of breast cancer was noticeable and detected by husband during the game!!!!

Important characteristics to note are its size, whether or not it is tender and painful. Whether it feels hard or soft, And whether it is mobile or fixed to underlying tissues.
On the whole, small, tender, soft lumps that are freely mobile are benign. While painless, solid lumps that are fixed to the underlying wall of the chest are much more serious. However, these are only guidelines And any lump of this nature should be referred to doctor.
It's not clear what causes breast cancer, But Doctors know that breast cancer occurs when some breast cells begin growing abnormally. These cells divide more rapidly than healthy cells do and continue to accumulate, forming a lump or mass. The cells may spread  through your breast to your lymph nodes or to other parts of your body. Breast cancer most often begins with cells in the milk producing ducts.

Researchers have identified hormonal, lifestyle and environmental factors that may increase your risk of breast cancer. But it's not clear why some people who have no risk factors develop cancer, yet other people with risk factors never do. It's likely that breast cancer is caused by a complex interaction of your genetic makeup and your environment. Your breast cancer treatment options based on your type of breast cancer, its stage and grade, size, and whether the cancer cells are sensitive to hormones.

Generally, the patient is to be placed on either of the following;
Hormone therapy.

Radiotherapy.

LAGOS WILL EXPERIENCE NEW MILESTONES THIS YEAR - AMBODS

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Sunday expressed optimism that the State will experience new and wonderful milestones this year.

Governor Ambode, who spoke at the State’s 2018 Annual Thanksgiving Service held at the Lagos House in Ikeja with the theme, ‘Ceaseless Praise’, said that despite the several economic and security challenges that enveloped some parts of the country, Lagos has continued to experience peace and prosperity over the years.

Attributing the steady progress of the State to divine intervention and the grace of God, the Governor said he was confident that the State would record more landmark achievements throughout the year.

“Since the inception of this administration, we have called on God at the beginning of the year and our prayers have been prophetic as He always granted our desires beyond our expectations. At a time when the nation was in recession, our State was experiencing economic growth and while there was insecurity in other places, Lagos remains calm and peaceful.

“This is not as a result of what the Government has done but by the special grace of God. And all we need to do is continue to give Him praise and thanksgiving and He will continue to bless and provide for us as Lagosians and a State.

“In this New Year, we submit to Him again and I am confident that irrespective of whatever is happening elsewhere, our State and all our people will continue to excel in peace, good health, prosperity, love and joy.

God will continue to shower His blessings on us as a State and our families and homes will experience new and wonderful milestones by His grace,” Governor Ambode said.

He said the Annual Thanksgiving Service presents an opportunity to commit the affairs of the State to God, in acknowledgement of His supreme power in the development of the State.

“It is my prayer that as we come to His Gates and Courts with thanksgiving and with praises today, He will release His blessings upon us, guide and direct our path and lead us through the year successfully,” Governor Ambode said.

The Governor also used the occasion to appreciate the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adeboye and his wife, Pastor Mrs Folu Adeboye and other religious leaders for their prayers and support for the State since the inception of his administration.
“I offer my sincere gratitude to all our religious leaders for your presence today and continued support for the peace and progress of Nigeria and Lagos in particular. God bless you all,” he said.

In his sermon, General Overseer of the RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye urged Nigerians to draw closer to God, assuring that when they do so, they will continue to enjoy special favour and blessings from God.

Among dignitaries who graced the service include Governor Ambode, his wife, Bolanle, first Civilian Governor of the State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, his wife, Abimbola, Chief Judge of Lagos, Justice Opeyemi Oke, Chief Rasak Okoya, Professor Pat Utomi, Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, Senator Ganiyu Solomon, Pastor Paul Adefarasin, Pastor Mathew Ashimolowo, Pastor Ituah Ighodola, Rev Adebola Ademowo, Bishop Mike Okonkwo, among others.

FIRE ENGULFS TRUMP TOWER IN NEW YORK

Firefighters from the Fire Department of New York are at the scene of a rooftop electrical fire at Trump Tower in Manhattan.

President Donald Trump’s son Eric Trump said a fire broke out in a cooling tower on the roof. “The New York Fire Department was here within minutes and did an incredible job,” he said in a tweet.

Two injuries were reported, one firefighter and one civilian. The fire is said to be under control. The department says it was called around 7 a.m. ET Monday for a report of a fire on the top floor.

More than 70 firefighters responded to the call, which is standard for a fire on a roof of a high rise, the New York Police Department said. Aerial views initially showed firefighters on the roof, with smoke billowing from one corner of the high-rise.

President Trump and his family are not currently in residence at the midtown skyscraper.

Chelsea Sign Ross Barkley From Everyone

Chelsea have boosted their midfield with the signing of Everton’s Ross Barkley for 15 million pounds.

The 24-year-old has agreed a deal that will return for five and half years, and he will wear the number eight shirt.

“I’m overwhelmed, I’m looking forward to it and I’m really excited to get started,” Barkley told the Chelsea website.

“To be given a fresh start at a new club like Chelsea, it’s unbelievable for me. I’m looking forward to continuing where I left off at the end of the last season and hoping to improve and add more goals to my game.”

The England international has been out injured since August and his contract with Everton was due to run out in the summer.

SERAP TO UN RIGHTS CHIEF: SPEAK OUT $ HOLD SPECIAL SESSION ON BENUE KILLINGS

SERAP
Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has sent an urgent appeal to Prince Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights urging him to use his leadership position to “urgently call and/or facilitate the holding of a special session of the UN Human Rights Council to address persistent killings apparently by herdsmen in Benue State of Nigeria and other parts of the country.”

The organization also urged Prince Al Hussein to “speak out strongly and condemn the killings apparently by herdsmen in the country, and make an official visit to Nigeria with special rapporteurs with relevant mandates to discuss the killings and concrete actions to end the killings and ultimately bring about significant improvements in the lives of farmers and their families as well as other citizens affected by violence across the country.”

In an urgent appeal dated 6 January 2018 and signed by SERAP executive director Adetokunbo Mumuni, the organization said, “The UN Human Rights Council’s ability to successfully expose and hold perpetrators of human rights violations to account may be under threat if your office continues to ignore or pay little attention to the crimes and abuses apparently by herdsmen and other unknown perpetrators in Nigeria.”

The organization said, “While we acknowledge that the council has made significant contributions to human rights elsewhere, we are concerned that the violence and killings in Nigeria rarely attract the attention of the UN and particularly, your office. It is time for your office to speak out strongly against the continuing killings by herdsmen in Nigeria for the sake of thousands of victims and their families who continue to lack access to an effective remedy, including truth, justice and full and effective reparation.”

Suspected herdsmen yesterday killed at least 11 persons in a fresh attack on Tombu village in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State. This followed the alleged killing earlier in the week of at least 33 people apparently by herdsmen in the State.

The urgent appeal read in part: “The killings in Benue State of Nigeria and the distressing situation of farmers and their families paint a stark picture of the grave abuses carried out apparently by herdsmen and the impunity that they continue to enjoy. The actions of herdsmen hinder meaningful progress towards stability, development and peace in the country.”

“We also urge your office to facilitate the process of creating a commission of inquiry to investigate killings by herdsmen in Nigeria, and to uncover, name and shame cow owners that hire the herdsmen, as such owners may be criminally complicit in the killings. The involvement of your office will ensure solid investigations into the alleged killings, and help draw international attention to the problem, which in turn will go a long way in putting pressure on the Nigerian authorities to take concrete and meaningful steps to end the killings and bring suspected perpetrators to justice.”

“SERAP notes that the Human Rights Council was created in 2006 to replace the failed UN Commission on Human Rights, which had largely been unwilling to address real human rights concerns in deserving countries.”

“The council needs to be vigilant to avoid the problems that plagued its predecessor, including a loss of relevance from failing to speak out on human rights violations and abuses in deserving countries, such as Nigeria. We urge your office to seek full respect for the right to life, to personal security and dignity, to property, and other human rights of farmers and other Nigerians, consistent with the international human rights standards your office has sworn to uphold.”
“Nigeria is a member of the Human Rights Council, and has ratified several UN human rights treaties, including the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights; and the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Nigeria has also ratified the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, which has in fact become part of the national laws.”

“The Human Rights Council cannot be silent when innocent citizens are caught up in violence such as the one going on in Benue State. The international community must strive to deliver justice to victims of human rights violations and abuses wherever they occur and ensure that those found to be responsible for such crimes are brought to justice.”

“SERAP strongly believes that the holding of a special session on the violence and killings apparently by herdsmen in Benue State and elsewhere in Nigeria would contribute to a speedy end to the problem, and to peace and greater respect for human rights of farmers and their families as well as other citizens.”
“The holding of a special session on the killings in Benue State will be consistent with the practice of the Human Rights Council regarding its previous special sessions on the Occupied Palestinian Territories; Lebanon; Darfur; Myanmar; the Democratic Republic of the Congo; the Global Food Crisis and the Global Economic and Financial Crises, among others.”

SERAP therefore urged Prince Al Hussein to:
1.     Urgently facilitate a special session of the UN Human Rights Council to discuss the persistent killings by herdsmen and other unknown perpetrators in Benue State of Nigeria and other parts of the country with a view to ending the problem and ensuring access of victims and their families to an effective remedy, including truth, justice and full and effective reparation;

2.     Speak out strongly and condemn the killings by herdsmen and other unknown perpetrators in the country, and make an official visit to Nigeria with special rapporteurs having relevant mandates to discuss the killings and concrete actions to ultimately end the problem, and bring about significant improvements in the lives of farmers and their families as well as other citizens affected by violence across the country;

3.     Put pressure on the Nigerian authorities to allow and facilitate the visits of Special Procedures mandate holders to investigate years of violence and killings by herdsmen and other unknown perpetrators in the country with complete impunity;

4.     Prevail on the Nigerian authorities to fulfil its obligations under the Rome Statute of the ICC to investigate fully, effectively, fairly, independently and impartially and bring to justice those suspected to be responsible for crimes against humanity in the context of the on-going attacks and violence in Benue State and elsewhere in the country;

5.     Use the opportunity of the special session to urge other states to exercise universal jurisdiction over the killings and violence in Benue State and elsewhere in the country.

PEN-CINEMA FLYOVER: LASTMA CREATES 24-HRS SPECIAL INTERVENTION, RAPID RESPONSE UNIT

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) at the weekend created a 24-hour Special Intervention and Rapid Response Unit to mitigate the impact of partial closure of adjoining roads in Agege area of the State on traffic owing to the ongoing construction of Pen Cinema Flyover.

The State Government had, on January 4, commenced the enforcement of partial closure of some roads in Agege to facilitate the construction of the 1.4km flyover which was conceived and designed by the present administration in the State to end the perennial traffic situation hitherto associated with the axis.

Speaking at the Agege Zonal Office of the agency, LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr Olawale Musa assured residents and motorists that the State Government was determined to ensure free flow of traffic throughout the construction of the bridge, and that adequate measures had been firmed up to facilitate seamless connectivity within Agege and its environs.

Musa, who spoke after meeting with the senior traffic officials and inspection of materials deployed to the axis, said the Agege-Pen Cinema axis was a crucial centre point to human and vehicular movement to all the adjourning communities and an alternative route to exit Lagos State to neighboring states.

He said due to the strategic importance of the corridor, the agency was not oblivious of the impact the temporary closure of the adjoining roads would have on movement and socio-economic activities in the area, a development he said necessitated the setting up of the 24-hours Special Intervention and Rapid Response Unit.

He said: “As part of measures to mitigate the effect of the closure of the roads, reduce travel time, eliminate traffic-induced stress and insecurity in the area, we have also beefed up the number of traffic officers, materials and operational vehicles deployed to Agege area.

“All the alternative routes and diversions opened during the construction period will be manned by LASTMA’s traffic officials all days of the week and this will ensure seamless traffic and assist motorists and commuters get to their destinations on time.”

The General Manager said that the Agency was not unmindful of the spill-over effect which the construction of the bridge and closure of roads at Pen Cinema would have on other alternative roads in the axis, especially on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Abule-Egba, Iju-Fagba and Iyana-Ipaja, Agidingbi, Ogba among others.

“The creation of the 24 hours Special Intervention and Rapid Response Unit by LASTMA is as a result of the need to address the spill-over effect of the road closure and thereby assist in managing traffic across all the affected zones in the affected areas.

“In addition, the Rescue and Response Department of LASTMA has been re-organised and re-invigorated to response timely to issues of accident, abandoned and accident vehicles on the highways in the State with special focus and attention on all areas where construction works are on-going and bridges across the State,” Musa said.

Besides, Musa appealed to motorists and commuters plying the Agege-Pen Cinema axis to exercise patience, plan their journey ahead, obey road signs and cooperate with traffic officials to achieve free flow of traffic.

He further urged motorists and members of the public to always take advantage of LASTMA’s open-door policy by suggesting to the agency alternative measures and strategies capable of eliminating traffic gridlock at Agege and other parts of the State in general.

TOPICS TO AVOID DISCUSSING AT WORK

Some subjects are made for bad workplace conversations.
Never try to discuss about:

Religion.
While religion seems to be discussed everywhere,
it is a topic about which you should tread very lightly in the workplace. Faith is a very personal thing about which people are often sensitive. You don't have to hide your religion, and you can mention things you do to celebrate it, but realize that not everyone worships the same way as you.
Do not discuss your own religious beliefs in depth and keep any negative opinions you might have about others' beliefs. Your coworkers likely don't want to hear that you disagree with them about this or that you believe your religion is the right one for everyone.
Never, try to persuade anyone to convert to your faith. You can only suggest.

Politics.
Politics is probably a more volatile topic than any other. It causes tempers to flare and has ended relationships, even between close friends.
Given the amount of time you spend at work,  to get along with your colleagues.
While you may feel very strongly about your party or the candidate you support,
do not try to win your coworkers over to your side. It will be a futile effort that will just cause hard feelings between you and them.

Your Marital Life.

Don't ever discuss details about your sex life. There is entirely no reason for anyone to know what goes on between you and your partner. This topic of conversation makes many people squirm and can make your relationship with your coworkers awkward.
Furthermore, if someone feels intimidated or thinks you have created an offensive work environment, he or she may have grounds to file a sexual harassment complaint against you.

Problems With Your Spouse, Your Children, Your Parents or family members will distract you from doing your job.

When you discuss these issues with your colleagues, they may begin to wonder if your work will suffer.
When, as a supervisor or manager, you are candid about your problems, it may reveal  weaknesses to your subordinates. In addition, highlighting your problems to them will feed the rumor mill, possibly making you become the
subject of workplace gossip.
Discuss directly with your partner instead.

Your Career Aspirations.

This is a very mistake people make at place of work.
While in an organization, you can secure another job.
You may think of your current job as a stepping stone to bigger and better things. There isn't anything wrong with that. However, keep it to yourself. Talking about your ambitions will, for a good reason, make your boss and coworkers question your loyalty to them. Some coworkers may even resent you.
If you are interested in advancing within your current organization, do your job exceptionally well, and of course, let your boss know you want to move up through the company's ranks if need be. Your actions will speak for you. If your plans for the future include leaving your current job to climb the ladder, don't announce that until you are ready to make your move.

Your Health Problems.

Even though health issues—mental or physical—are nothing to be ashamed of, you shouldn't dwell on them too much at work. You may or may not choose to talk about them at all, or you may be very open. Regardless of how much, or how little, you disclose, you shouldn't share every last detail of your condition.
While going on leave in your organization be careful of doctors report you submit.
In deciding how much to share, keep in mind that knowing about your health issues, just like being aware of your problems with family, could make your colleagues question what impact they could have on your ability to do your job. It's not that they would be at all correct about it, but it will put doubt in their minds. May you no longer fit for the post.

The Police, had on December 22, 2017, declared Alaka wanted in connection with series of well-orchestrated killings and nefarious activities of the Badoo cult group in Ikorodu and Epe area of the State.

Alaka is believed to be the ring leader of the Badoo menace.

The State Government, in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Steve Ayorinde, said the order sealing off the structures was in pursuant to Section 60 of the said Law.

It would be recalled that the State’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Imohimi Edgal, on Tuesday, paraded a Badoo kingpin arrested in Ikorodu axis who confessed to the killings and took Police to their shrine in Imosan, a suburb of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State where the group’s chief herbalist, Fatai Adebayo was arrested.

According to Ayorinde, “The Lagos State Government is joining the Nigerian Police in asking the said Alaka to come out of hiding and submit himself to the law in his own interest.

“The State Government has also enjoined the Police to offer the public a reward for any useful information on the owner of the Alaka Filling Station, Hotel and Event Centre in Ikorodu.

“The government is once again asking its citizens to go about their businesses without fear. We will leave no stone unturned in keeping the State safe in 2018,” Ayorinde assured.
