*The discovery of a breast lump in any shape or form is quite justifiably a cause of cancer*
Breast cancer is far too common in this country compared to other parts of the world.
90% of women noticing a small lump in their breast or small armpit will prove to have a benign tumor rather than cancer.
But for the remaining 10percent who do have a malignancy, the sooner that lump is detected the easier it will be to diagnose and treat.
For early detected breast cancers, the survival rate is good. For more advanced cancers the outlook is not so healthy medically.
It is for this reason that doctors still advise women to be 'breast aware' by gently examining their breasts every three months or so to check whether any changes have occurred.
90% of all lumps are discovered by women themselves rather than a doctor.
I certainly believe that this checking routine is important.
Special/regular Breast X-rays performed after the age of 35 can also be useful.
When examining your breasts, you should check for the following:
1. Any changes in shape or size.
2. Any enlarged veins.
3. Any areas where the skin appears thicker than usual.
4. Any dimpling of the skin or resemblance to the pitting seen in orange Peel.
5. Any ulceration of the overlying skin.
6. Any new in turning of the nipple.
7. Any discharge from the nipple.
8. Any swelling under the armpit.
9. Any swelling of the arm itself.
For the married:
Your Abu can help to thoroughly observe the aforementioned signs, the earlier the detection the lower the risk of suffering from this deadly disease!!!
Kindly seek for your Hubby's attention to this.
One of my previous case of breast cancer was noticeable and detected by husband during the game!!!!
Important characteristics to note are its size, whether or not it is tender and painful. Whether it feels hard or soft, And whether it is mobile or fixed to underlying tissues.
On the whole, small, tender, soft lumps that are freely mobile are benign. While painless, solid lumps that are fixed to the underlying wall of the chest are much more serious. However, these are only guidelines And any lump of this nature should be referred to doctor.
It's not clear what causes breast cancer, But Doctors know that breast cancer occurs when some breast cells begin growing abnormally. These cells divide more rapidly than healthy cells do and continue to accumulate, forming a lump or mass. The cells may spread through your breast to your lymph nodes or to other parts of your body. Breast cancer most often begins with cells in the milk producing ducts.
Researchers have identified hormonal, lifestyle and environmental factors that may increase your risk of breast cancer. But it's not clear why some people who have no risk factors develop cancer, yet other people with risk factors never do. It's likely that breast cancer is caused by a complex interaction of your genetic makeup and your environment. Your breast cancer treatment options based on your type of breast cancer, its stage and grade, size, and whether the cancer cells are sensitive to hormones.
Generally, the patient is to be placed on either of the following;
Hormone therapy.
Radiotherapy.
Chemotherapy
